David John Nelson Chester

February 19, 1962 – January 12, 2025

January 12, 2025, I lost my Brother 😢. What will I do, where can I call for advice, a good laugh, a vicious fight or a ride to a medical appointment?

David was predeceased by his Father in 83 and his Mother in 84. He leaves behind his sister Darcey (Brian), his niece Chantal (Jayson) and cousins in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto and numerous lifelong friends, from school and work.

I am hearing good words from his co-workers and friends. He was dedicated to his work life to SUPERSTORE since 1984 and to CANADA LIFE, working for various food service vendors, for almost 30+ years.

Chantal and Jayson have taken in his cat Tat and she is slowly adapting to the new environment. Still waiting to see how Walter accepts her.

I’m still trying to accept this horrible situation and what changes will happen with him now gone. The tears are flowing, the grief is getting heavy, and the concrete shoes are firmly encased around my feet. This will be a blur by next year.

At this time, there are no plans for a ceremony. A private graveside burial will follow in the spring.

Flowers are gratefully declined, but should you wish to make a donation in his memory please donate to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

This song is for you, my brother!!!! ❤️❤️

His family would briefly move back to England in his teens but would move back again to Canada after a few years. They would move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he would eventually meet his wife Agnes, and build a life together in Tyndall, Manitoba.

Mark will be remembered for his love of Canada, his love for hockey, his fascination and deep knowledge of the universe, and his wicked sense of humor, that he would pass along to his children. He also enjoyed building model airplanes and spaceships and drinking some beers with his friends. In his pastime, Mark loved spending his days tending to his garden during the summers and stargazing at night.

Godspeed Dad. Go explore the stars…

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Betty Kump, on January 12, 2025. At 67 years of age, she lost her battle with cancer and was reunited with her late husband, Glen, who passed away in 2001.

She is also survived by her sisters Susan, Debbie (Mike), Mary (Lavern), Fran, Laurie (Gord), Joanna (Dennis); and Brothers Gary (Charlene), Danny (Kelly), Steven (Debrah) as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Betty, her father John and her two brothers David and Mark.

Betty was born in St. Catherine’s, Ontario. As a child she was a very happy kid, always laughing and was super funny. She enjoyed climbing trees, playing outside, making mud pies and running barefoot in the rain. She also loved tobogganing and would often show her strength by pulling all her sisters up the hill.

She began traveling at 11 years of age, making her way through Ontario to Manitoba helping others and making friends throughout her journey. She moved many times but always considered Arborg, Manitoba her home where she made a life for her children. She would often be seen gardening, spending time with family and friends, and helping others as the need would arise. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, sense of humor and her will to never give up.

Davis Aaron Hickaway

April 11, 1988 – December 26, 2024

It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Davis Hickaway, at the age of 36., in the RM of Reynolds, MB.

Davis was the son of Rosemary Schellenberg and Jeffery Hickaway;  brother to Carey Hickaway; partner to Marina Grapentine.  He was also a cherished nephew, cousin, and friend to many.

Davis was born on April 11, 1988.  As a toddler, Davis always had a smile on his face and was quick to give out hugs.  He was always goofing around, getting laughs and making friends everywhere he went.  As a child, he spent lots of time at Falcon Lake with his aunts, uncles and cousins; on the beach, hiking and making forts in the bush.  It was always fun.  There was no one he didn’t get along with…He loved everyone!  Davis had a kind and loving soul.

Davis impacted and changed the lives of all the people he met.  He was always the kind of person to put people and friends first and was always the one to make things happen.  Anything he could help with or improve; he would do selflessly.

Davis was an original character, who had a big spirit about him that made people and animals gravitate towards him.  He was everyone’s friend and always the life of the party.  His sense of humor is treasured, smile is large and his laugh infectious and unforgettable.  He would light up a room and could make anyone burst into laughter with ease.

He continued to have a passion for adventure, the great outdoors and all things nature.  Some of his interests were camping, bush crafting, hiking, working on vehicles, music, video games and a road trip with friends, just to name a few.

Davis was bold, cool, caring, loyal, intelligent and everything in between.  His love is everlasting and stretches far.  He will continue to be a light to many when things seem dark and will be missed always.  His mom will especially miss his visits, huge warm comforting hugs and “I love yous”.

As an adult, Davis was as a helper, a jack of all trades and very mechanically inclined.  He worked as a heavy duty mechanic, HVAC technician and was staring a new path down the road of masonry and bricklaying.  He was a hard worker.

On behalf of Davis’ friends and family, we would like to thank the vast community that came together to aid in the search and recovery of Davis.  We are so grateful to all.  He will live forever in our hearts.

The impact of the loss of Davis will be a reminder to support and encourage young men and people alike to take the next step towards positive mental health and community change.  If someone you know is struggling with mental health issues remind them it is never too late to seek help or reach out to a loved one.

“You must understand that there is more than one path to the top of the mountain.”
Miyamoto Musashi

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, we kindly suggest a donation be made, in Davis’ memory, to a local mental health and wellness program or a local animal rescue of your choice.
