November 2, 1964 – July 14, 2026

A little more laughter left the world on July 14, 2026, with the unexpected passing of Danny Wasnie at the age of 61.

Born to the late Ralph and Marlene Wasnie (nee Marshall), Danny was the eldest of three children and a beloved brother to Kim (Jamie) and Kelly (Louise). He was a proud and loving uncle to Kenzie, Kady, Dylan, Hailie (Louie), and Louise’s children, who were also an important part of his extended family. Danny was a cherished great-uncle to Kashton, Lily, and Penelope, each of whom brought him great pride and happiness.

Danny also shared a lifelong bond with his cousin Jody (Bruce) and her family.  From childhood adventures to countless memories made throughout adulthood, they remained a treasured part of one another’s lives.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and countless friends, all of whom were fortunate to share in his life.

Danny was a Red Seal Carpenter who dedicated many years of his career to Concord Projects Ltd.  He took immense pride in his work and in the relationships, he built along the way.  He believed there was no problem that couldn’t be solved with hard work, patience and the right tools.  If someone needed advice, help with a project, or simply another pair of hands, Dan was there without hesitation.  Helping others was simply part of who he was.

Although he was proud of his career, his greatest accomplishments could never be measured by the buildings he helped create, but rather by the lives he touched.

Dan embraced life with enthusiasm and made the most of every season.  Summer meant time on his Harley with the open road ahead, while winter brought snowmobile trails and fresh adventures.  He loved beach days, kayaking, hiking, motorcycle trips, and making memories in Las Vegas.  He also enjoyed cheering on his favourite hometown teams, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets.  Yet no destination or event ever meant more to him than simply being surrounded by the people he loved.

Family was the heart of Dan’s world.  He treasured family dinners, holidays, and every opportunity to gather around a table to reminisce, tell stories, and laugh until everyone’s cheeks hurt.  He loved cheering on his great-nephew Kashton at sporting events and looked forward to every chance to spend time with his family.

For Kenzie and Kady, some of their most treasured memories began with a phone call from Uncle Danny inviting them on another adventure. There was rarely much planning involved, only an invitation to head out for the day, find a new adventure, and make another memory. Danny never believed an ordinary day had to stay ordinary.

To know Danny was to know laughter. He had a charismatic personality, a quick wit, a contagious smile, and a sense of humour that could brighten even the hardest day. He never missed an opportunity to remind everyone of his self-proclaimed good looks, and he could turn even the simplest gathering into an unforgettable occasion. No event was complete without his stories, playful teasing, and unforgettable one-liners.  Time spent with Dan was time well spent.

His love of music was unmistakable. Music was woven into the fabric of his life.  More often than not, you could hear Danny before you could see him. Whether it was the music playing from his truck or his own voice enthusiastically singing along, he had a soundtrack for every drive, every road trip, and every adventure. His playlists reflected his appreciation for music of every kind, and every song will forever remind those who loved him of the joy he brought into their lives.

Dan’s passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him.  The world seems quieter without his laughter, his music and his adventurous spirit.  Yet his legacy lives on in every story shared, every project completed with the helping hand he inspired, every road travelled, every song played just a little louder, and every family gathering filled with laughter.  Those who knew and loved Dan will carry his spirit with them always.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Flowers are gracefully declined.  In honor of Dan’s memory, the family invites those who wish to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.  They would also be deeply grateful, if you would share a favourite photograph and memory of Danny, celebrating the adventures, laughter and moments that made him so special.

Danny’s appreciation for life’s simple pleasures was beautifully captured in one of his favourite lyrics by Tom T. Hall:
