August 3, 1955 – December 16, 2023
My beloved husband, Emil, passed away on December 16, 2023, at the age of 68. I, Sandi (nee Hur), will always cherish his memory, his one-of-a-kind personality, and the more than 42 years we shared together. Also grieving his loss are his cousins, extended family, and many friends.
Emil was a caring son and brother; he was predeceased by his parents, Emil Sr. and Josephine; and his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Lub Manastersky.
Emil was a retired City of Winnipeg fire fighter. In his younger years he was an avid hockey and lacrosse player and was dedicated to the practice of Kempo (martial arts).
The “outdoors” was always a great part of Emil’s life: hunting, fishing, biking, a ‘road trip’ of any kind, or a simple walk (always with a dog, or two, by his side). And not to forget his passion for archery.
Perhaps rough around the edges, he had a huge heart, was a wonderful husband, a great brother-in-law and uncle, and a good friend to many.
A heartfelt thank you to the ambulance crew and ER staff at Selkirk Regional Health Centre.
A celebration of Emil’s life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Holy Eucharist Parish Centre, 460 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg.
In Emil’s memory, and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cancer Care Manitoba, or D’Arcy’s A.R.C. (animal rescue centre).
NEVER FORGOTTEN – ALWAYS MISSED

RIP brother. 🙏 Thank you for your service.
It was great knowing you in the fire service for the past 30 years.
Sending prayers to you Sandi and family.
Always here for a brother’s family.
RIP Brother. Thank you for your service both with st andrews fire and the WFPS.
I worked with Emil at 11 station for a few years and he sure left his mark there! His endless stories and joking with crew were always welcome (even when they lasted for hours.) His famous “chicken Sandi recipe” was a staple on the meal list, as well he was generous with the other game he killed with his bare hands! Notable moment when he refused to drive the ladder with no license designation, and when his hand was forced, he loved it! It was nice to have you visit us at 14 station when he retired as well. Thankyou Emil, for making time working with you, interesting! You will be missed.
I’ve known Emil since I was a kid. We grew up in the north end and went to school together. We were in elementary school grades 1 thru 6 at Faraday School, 7- 9 at Isaac Newton Junior High and 10 – 12 at Sisler High School. We used to hang out at CUAC Community Center and go skating and play at the park. I have fond memories of the times we spent together as kids growing up and going to school.
I’m sorry to hear about his passing and send my condolences to his family.
You’ll never be forgotten Emil , I have missed our talks and laughs over a smoke , seen that big heart under the hardness earned from a man who worked hard all his days. Travel well my friend .
Just learned of Emil’s passing. Still in shock and disbelief. I will always remember our hunting and fishing trips as well as us solving worlds problems over countless cups of coffee, in black and white, of course.
Rest in peace, my good friend.
