Angela (Angie) Van Tornhout

Angela (Angie) Van Tornhout

It is with heartache and sadness that we announce the passing of our Wife, Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend.

We will never be able to put into words all that she has meant to our family.  She was a constant in our lives.  Ryden, her Grandson, recently said it perfectly….she was so selfless.  Her needs came after everyone else’s.

Angie was a cherished and devoted Mom to Tracy and Jacquie.  She was a beautiful person who left an immeasurable impression on her children and everyone she met.  She was genuine, full of life and so much fun to be around.

Her greatest joy and purpose was being Grandma to Madison, McKenna, Ryden, Brett, & Kate.  Nothing was ever too much trouble.  She was always eager to prepare their favourite meals, goal tend for mini sticks, take trips to the playground and see them off on the first day of school.  She was always there to cheer and support at all hockey games, soccer matches, volleyball games, concerts and school events.  She would do anything for them.  Even actions that were questionable or unauthorized such as entering a plane at the Aviation Museum or laying on the floor of the backseat of the car so they could take all kids on an excursion.  It was all to make the experience more enjoyable for her grandkids. Her love towards her Grandchildren was truly amazing.

And of course, there was the love of her life.  She met Dave shortly after high school and would have celebrated their 59th anniversary in June of this year.  The love and devotion they shared was an example to us all.

We will miss her quick wit and sometimes sassy comebacks.  And as much as we are struggling with the loss, we will forever cherish our wonderful memories of her.

I have not seen such beautiful words put together for anyone who has left this Earth, such as that eulogy in a very long time. But of course it is so fitting for Angie. I grew up in a different city from her so I never saw all of her moods and the only mood that I ever experienced was one of constant joy for living and most of all, for family. She was always upbeat, but when needed spoke her mind, with kind and measured words. Angie shared the Joy from everyone’s experiences in their lives with an exuberance that would make you think it was her experience that was being shared. We loved how Dave and Angie would come out west, sometimes even surprising us with a visit and we will miss that. She was a real beautiful person inside and out and there’s just something in that blood where the girls of successive generations are also beautiful.
We lost a bright light here but she’ll shine forever, and we have lots of memories to look back on and smile about.
    Love to all, Sean V.T.
