April 22, 1944 – December 29, 2021
Peacefully with her children by her side, Marie Cyr beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed away on December 29, 2021.
Marie will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her son Brian Cyr and wife Kim; grandchildren Alexandra (Kyle), Jessica and Nicholas; daughter Josette Cyr; grandchildren Dustin (Crystal) and Robbie; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Marie was predeceased by her parents Sam and Ina Etter, four brothers; Maurice, Eddie, Jackie and Robert and sister Josette.
Marie was born in France and at age 14 her family immigrated to Canada, specifically Selkirk, MB. Marie eventually settled in Winnipeg to raise her children. She worked at Middlechurch Home as a Health Care Aide for many years where she provided exceptional care to the residents until she retired.
Marie had all the characteristics you want in a mother. She was supportive, nurturing, caring, generous and compassionate. She was a dedicated and devoted single mother who worked hard to support and raise her two children. While those times were challenging, there was never a shortage of love. She was always so proud of her children and grandchildren and would proudly display their arts and crafts and drawings in her home.
Marie was known for her delicious cooking, especially her legendary cabbage rolls, which to this day cannot be duplicated. It brought her great joy to cook for her family and her family always looked forward to her dinners.
Marie never shied away from a challenge or hard work. She had a quick wit and loved to joke around with her kids. She will be remembered for her generous nature and easy- going personality. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone and her generosity had no boundaries and no exceptions.
Marie was deeply spiritual and her faith defined the life she lived. She was confidant in her belief that, “with complete faith there is no fear of what faces you in life or death” and “It is in love we are made, in love we disappear”.
Our family extends thanks to mom’s doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital who gave her exceptional care. As well, our sincere thanks to the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, who cared for mom on a daily basis and affectionately called her “Momma Bear”. Your kindness and dedication to our mom’s care during these last years will always be greatly appreciated.
A special thank you to Rick Kotaska at Interlake Cremation & Memorial Services who was an invaluable resource and provided immense support and guidance through this difficult time.
There will be no formal service at this time. A private service will be held at a later date.
