It is with immense sadness we announce the passing of Joyce Margaret Rain on June 22, 2020 at the age of 81 years. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, William and Alvina Schroeder, her husband Henry and her sister Leona Ruttig.
Joyce is survived by her son, Leonard. Left to mourn her passing are her brothers Herbert (Sandra) and Alvin (Dorothy) and her sisters Betty and Sharon (Milos). She will also be dearly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Joyce was born on May 12, 1939 in Brokenhead, Manitoba. The oldest of all her siblings, she grew up on the family farm where she learned about hard work and family. Joyce was kind, thoughtful and generous. Joyce had a green thumb and an amazing garden that was much too big for her needs, but she would work tirelessly every year so that her family and friends could enjoy her plentiful harvest.
Always up for anything, Joyce spent the later years of her life with her closest companion, her sister Leona, prior to her passing. They could be found together shopping, working in the garden, assisting each other with various do-it-yourself projects or out for coffee with friends. Often the caretaker of the family, she would be the first to offer to accompany family and friends to appointments or wherever they needed to go. She would always be there when she was needed and would never hesitate to selflessly offer her assistance whenever she could. Joyce enjoyed traveling to visit her out-of-town family and, regardless of distance, would be present for pretty much every major family life event. She would never miss the opportunity to send a greeting card and so before every birthday, anniversary, or any other circumstance that would generally require a card, the mail would arrive and her card would always be there in time for the occasion.
Joyce was never one to complain and was as tough and stubborn as they come, but it was all part of her charm. She loved and was loved in return. Joyce was eternally thankful that her son Leonard was so helpful to her around the house and in the yard. Although she wouldn’t often ask for help, she appreciated the care, company and comfort Leonard brought to her life.
Joyce will be missed with much sorrow, but Heaven is lucky to have gained another Angel.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Joyce’s benevolence to numerous charities throughout her life, donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
