Kevin William Palmer

April 25th 1967 – Feb 14th, 2023

With deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Kevin.

Live Hard! Play Hard! Love hard!

To know Kevin “Icabod” was to love him.  Growing up, as a country boy in Petersfield his love of hunting, trapping, fishing and being with family meant everything to him.  He loved physical work and being outdoors that included many long hours helping his parents and grandparents on the farm. He could learn to do just about anything he set his mind to.  All who knew him recognized he worked hard and played harder. Throughout his life, his mom was always there to support him unconditionally.

Kevin loved the outdoors, fast cars and living life to the fullest. Always smiling and making us laugh, his outgoing personality made it so easy to be around him as he shared all his crazy stories with us.  One thing we know for sure, each one of us will remember that infectious laugh that made us laugh right alongside him. His generous spirit made sure his family, friends and others around him were taken care of before himself.  We will miss you dear son, father, partner, brother, uncle and friend.

Mourning Kevin’s sudden passing is his long-time partner Giselle and their kids, James, Trinity, Cyrus, Darian and Annie. Parents, Joan (Joe), Ron, Siblings; Dennis (Marilyn), Rhonda (Darcy), Colleen (Mike) and his many nieces and nephews.

Look out Dear Lord, here comes Kevin!

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can go to the Manitoba Addictions Foundation.

Robert (Bob) James Syrota

December 1, 1951 – February 4, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Robert, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. With family, as well as his beloved dogs by his side, he passed away suddenly at home.

He was predeceased by his father Thomas Syrota, mother Petronella (Pat) Shumilak, son Mickey Syrota, brother Tom Syrota, and his furry dog children Shaddy and Shadow. He leaves behind to mourn and with loving memories his wife Rose Syrota; son Robert Jr. Syrota (Cheryl); grandson Brennan Syrota (Rachel); sister Rose Sagness; step-children Sheldon Pescitelli (Yvette), Jodee Pescitelli (Ryan), Shaun Pescitelli; step-grandchildren Teesha, Alec, Daniel, Cody, Kane; 12 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; as well as many long-time friends and his fur babies Luna and Soleil.

Robert was one of a kind, with his loud booming voice which created an excitable energy that was hard to overlook.  He took particular pleasure in sharing his thoughts boisterously about the show “Fail Army,” as well as contributing his coaching advice energetically to the Winnipeg Blue Bomber’s team from the comfort of his living room chair.

When his children were young, Robert coached his sons’ hockey as well as enthusiastically cheered his children and step-children on from the stands at their sporting events.  Later in life, he continued to cheer on his grandson, Brennan, with football.

Robert grew up in Winnipeg’s Brooklands area as a child and remained in the city until he retired with his wife Rose to the Winnipeg Beach area.  Although he worked in sales for many years, he obtained a Red Seal Journeyman Commercial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Certification, and was employed with Canadian Mechanical Specialty for the remainder of his professional career. He was also president of the professional RSES association for a short period of time.

The family wishes to thank the home care staff at Gimli Hospital for their care and kindness while assisting Robert at home with medical needs.

As per Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday Feb 18th, 2023 in the Lutheran Hall, 330 Manitoba Ave., Selkirk, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Dean Michael Joseph Lavallee

December 5, 1971 – January 28, 2023

Dean loved everyone unconditionally.  Being in his presence meant living in the moment.  You were drawn into his mischievous energy of fun and laughter.  He kept you on your toes, never knowing what he would do or say next.  He was your greatest supporter, always wanting you to believe in yourself as much as he believed in you.  He was a great listener and open to deep conversations about life and dreams never shying from also discussing fears.  He strongly believed you should do what makes you happy and never settle for less.   You couldn’t help but love him and wanting to be by his side, his spirit enveloped yours.

Dean was a dedicated sports guy. Playing high calibre hockey throughout his youth, his love for the game was established early. When the pure enjoyment of the game was lost, Dean walked away from playing. His best debates were had about hockey. He knew everything about the game. If you wanted to see those eyebrows furrow, trash talk a good player regardless of the team. He believed in giving credit where it was due.

Dean was also a great golfer, putting forth his best attempt to defeat anyone on the links. He loved the challenge and camaraderie of the game even if towards the end of his journey, it meant playing virtually. He delighted in having the best dressed and coolest looking avatar.

Dean could hardly contain himself watching UFC.  You were mindful that invitations to tap outs may follow. He would slowly morph into everyone’s sensei.

Dean had a creative mind. He was an artist and a performer. He enjoyed sketching, leaving us with beautiful illustrations of his imagination. He had the best dance moves and even better vocals singing songs ranging from Pearl Jam to Adele – there was no limitation, you were his captivated audience.

Dean was the perfect son to Gilberthe, ensuring she was always taken care of.  He was the sweetest brother to Denise (Kevin) and Deanna, being the ultimate protector, knowing they only deserved the best.  He was a proud uncle, relishing in the true potential of his nieces and nephews Tyler and Tristen, Rashaun, Kyra, Kaliah, and Kaisley.  He had close relationships with his aunts and uncles, identifying more as their little brother than the #1 nephew.  He was the best friend to his many cousins and was the life of the party to many get togethers.  The family would be remiss if we didn’t thank his oil rig family for loving Dean and keeping him safe for many years.  You were his protector, his confidant, his friend, but best of all, you were all his brothers.

Dean considered his most rewarding role in life to be DAD or DADDA to his most precious and beloved children Kaylee (Kara), Kade (Melissa), Neala and Dasan (Jessica) and Grandpa to Jayden.  There was nothing more significant and joyful in his world than his children and the immense love he had for them.

Dean’s wish was to be at the St Laurent homestead for his final journey.  This has always been home for Dean and a place he felt the happiest and at peace.

On January 28, 2023 at the age of 51 years old, Dean left this physical world knowing he was tremendously loved by everyone left behind.  The care and support towards him with the many visits left him embarrassed as he felt undeserving of such love, but he was thankful. He was our brave warrior having made the arduous decision to face his deteriorating health without any medical intervention. He was excited to experience what the “other side” was all about, and hoped it destined being reunited with family who had predeceased him, namely his Grandpa Gilles, Grandpa Raymond, Grandma Rita, his aunts and uncles, his cousins but especially his Grandma Laurette.  He couldn’t wait to feel the warmth of her loving hugs once again.  He took great comfort in that anticipation.

Dean never wanted anyone to fuss or put their lives on hold for him, therefore to honor his wishes, there will be no service.  He strongly believed your time be spent doing what brings you happiness.  We love Dean and he brought us happiness. This summer (date TBD), we will celebrate our love for Dean and the gift he’s given us – great memories.  In his honour, the family will host a round of golf, hopefully coinciding with a scheduled UFC fight, sing some karaoke, share stories around a bonfire, listen to some live music and trash talk the Pittsburgh Penguins (guaranteed that will rouse him).  We know his spirit will be with us.

Fly Free Sweet Boy, Until We Meet Again.
