Kathryn Joyce Allard (nee Herner)

August 19, 1952 – February 16, 2026

With broken hearts we are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our mom Kathryn at her home on February 16, 2026 at the age of 73.

She was predeceased by her husband Eugene, mother Adeline, father Leo, sister Mari-Ann and brothers Jim and Claude.

She is survived by her 3 children Ron (Vikki), Roxanne (Kevin) and Melissa (A.J); grandchildren Jordan (Megan), Faith (Kris), Bryce (Danielle), Brooke (Rhett), Jersey (Jeremy), Hunter (Kaylen), Troy (Dom), Boston, Leighton and Cole. Great grandchildren Noah, Kinsley and Hudson.

Kathryn was born August 19,1952 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She married the love of her life at a young age of 18 and started her family. She was a devoted loving wife for 47 years and the best mom for 55 and a half years. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her life. Family meant everything to her. A small room, full of chaos and loud love, brought that big beautiful smile to her face. To know her is to love her and anyone who got that chance to love and be loved by her understands how losing her feels impossible. She always carried herself with so much love, beauty, and grace. As everyone knows Yellow was her favourite colour which made perfect sense as she was our sunshine, warm, bright and impossible not to feel. She was the kindest lady with the purest heart. We are going to miss her beautiful smile, her tightest hugs, her “I love you’s”, and of course that sense of humour.

We will be having a Celebration of Life for her at Four Crowns Restaurant and Bar, 1030 McPhillips Street on March 5th from 1:30-6:00pm.

Thank you to everyone who was in our mom’s life.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on Kathryn’s memorial page using the comment field below.

Joyce Marie Tarnowski

June 11, 1945 – January 22, 2026

Joyce Tarnowski was a woman whose life was defined by love, devotion, and quiet strength. She passed peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born and raised in Woodridge, Manitoba, Joyce was the beloved daughter of Frank and Nellie Gerus. Her early years were rooted in family, faith, and community—values that would guide her throughout her life.

At the age of 12, Joyce moved to Winnipeg, where she attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School. It was there that her compassion for others and her strong work ethic continued to grow. Fate stepped in when Joyce went on a blind date with Adam Tarnowski. The connection was instant, and the two fell deeply in love, beginning a beautiful marriage that lasted 55 years.

Together, Joyce and Adam built a life centered on family. She was a proud and loving mother to three children: Page (Robert Spulnick), Dawn Tarnowski, and Adam (Marsha Gallaway). Joyce’s joy only grew with the arrival of her six cherished grandchildren—Lyndsay, Matthew, Keith, Anthony, Presley, and Jackson—as well as nine great-grandchildren who brought her endless happiness and pride.

Joyce and Adam’s journey took them to Kenora, where mom ran the lunch counter while dad was on the train, before returning to Winnipeg three years later. Adam started his own business and the family bought their first home in Garden City, where they lived for 14 years. Eventually, they settled in Fraserwood/Malonton, a place they would call home for 30 years and where Joyce’s deep roots in community life truly flourished.

Throughout her life, Joyce wore many hats. She worked at Eatons and the Stock Exchange, kept the books for her husband’s business, and served as a dedicated homecare worker. No matter the role, she brought care, diligence, and kindness to everything she did.

Joyce’s heart for service was evident in her countless volunteer roles. She gave generously of her time as a PTA volunteer and with the Girl Guides of Canada, she was a Brown Owl, Girl Guide Captain, and Camp Coordinator. She also served as a catechism teacher, was a devoted member of the Catholic Women’s League for 26 years, and proudly served as President of the Gimli Soccer League for five years. Her commitment to helping others shaped countless lives and strengthened the communities she loved.

Above all, Joyce will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her deep faith, her servant heart, and her gentle presence. She was the quiet glue that held everything together—a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and volunteer whose legacy lives on in the lives she touched.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Gimli, with interment to take place at a later date. Honorary Pallbearers Jackson Tarnowski, Presley Tarnowski, Anthony Tarnowski, Keith Spulnick, Matthew Spulnick and Eden Leahy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Gimli Hospital for their excellent care, compassion, and kindness.

Joyce Tarnowski will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her memory will continue to shine through the family she cherished and the communities she faithfully served.

Joyce Lynn Penner

“When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll,
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say; it is well with my soul”

Joyce Lynn Penner, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on June 3rd, 2024. Surrounded by her loving husband Dale, his son Shane and two angel respite workers, Shelly and Amanda that helped him take such good care of her. She was 75 years old.

Born on February 27, 1949, in Lafayette, Tennessee, Joyce, also affectionately known as Shorty, was a beacon of love, kindness and grace. She touched the lives of all that knew her with her unwavering compassion and gentle spirit.

Throughout her life, Joyce dedicated herself to her family and community. Her nurturing presence filled our home with warmth and laughter. She was a source of strength during difficult times and a constant source of joy during moments of celebration.

Joyce had a passion for music, the outdoors, fishing, and flying with her husband Dale, who has been her best friend and husband for 28 years. She was an amazing piano player and was a member of the Gospel Pilgrims along with many close friends and close cousin Jimmy Shaw. Later, whether she was tending to her pets, cooking delicious meals for her home, or for the tenants at the fly-in-fishing lodge at Washahigan Lake, Manitoba, Canada, helping to run the store at the First Nations reserve at Deer Lake Ontario, or just being with Dale, she approached everything with boundless enthusiasm and generosity.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Hal Cliburn, father Albert Shockley, mother Gladys Laurene Hagar, Grandfather William Haskell Brandon, Grandmother Lillie Gladys Shaw Brandon, Cousin James Shaw, also known as “Uncle Jimmy” whom she was very close to.

She will be deeply missed by her husband Dale, daughter Ali and husband Dennis, granddaughter Jessica and grandson Nicholas, stepdaughter Nikki and husband Clay, and their daughter Evelyn, Shauna Penner, and her children Brandy, Jordie, and Christopher, Shane and his wife Tammy, their children Hope and Noah, and Joyce’s sister Carolyn. She has many cousins in Lafayette that she grew up with that loved her very much and niece Tammy, husband Joe, and nephew Alan. All those who were fortunate enough to know her will know that her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her presence.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at the following website: https://alzfdn.org/donate/ in honor of Joyce’s lifelong commitment to helping others.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held in Canada at 6 Shaun Dale Drive, Seven Sisters Falls, Manitoba on June 29th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Her ashes will be spread at one of her and Dale’s favorite spots, Whitemouth River Falls where the river runs into the Winnipeg River. All who know and loved her are invited to attend and share their fondest memories. However, being so far away, if any would like to write a note, Box 39, Seven Sisters Falls, Manitoba, R0E 1Y0 or text 1-204-770-4570. Dale will be more than happy to read that and we can all light a candle and say a special prayer that day. I know that would make her very happy.

Though she may be gone from our sight, Joyce’s love will continue on to guide us, and her memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.

Rest in peace sweet Joyce. You will always be remembered with love and gratitude.
