Elisabeth Flett (nee Mueller)(Updated)

March 20, 1950 – October 25, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elisabeth Flett, who left us on October 25 at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre with her family by her side.

Elisabeth was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and friend. She is predeceased by her father, Edward Mueller (1982) and mother, Madeleine (nee Pageot) (2016).

Elisabeth will be deeply missed and survived by her only daughter, Lisa Johnson (Jeff), grandchildren Kole Johnson (Tess), Kayla Sholdice (Riley), and Kassidy Johnson (Alex); and great-grandchild Dawson Sholdice.

Elisabeth also leaves behind her Brothers Wilfred Mueller (Joanne), and Alfred Mueller (Donna), nephew and nieces Steven, Stephanie, and Selina, as well as other treasured uncles, aunts, and cousins in Winnipeg, Saint Malo, and Pornic, France. She will be missed dearly by her many beloved friends including Molly, Leila, Jean and her breakfast crew over the years.

Elisabeth was born in Nantes, France and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1950. She grew up in Transcona, attending Murdoch MacKay Collegiate and lived in Manitoba throughout her life making her home in Rivers, Tyndall, Thompson, and finally Selkirk.

Her loss will be felt by many in the community as Elisabeth was an active lifelong volunteer for numerous organizations. The Royal Canadian Legion, Selkirk Game & Fish, Jr. Rifle, the Gordon Howard Senior Centre, and Tudor House were among a few that were especially dear to her.

Elisabeth had a fulfilling career working for the likes of Air Canada, Stony Mountain, Elections Canada and Industry Canada over the years as well as practicing as a hairdresser and operating her own driving school in Thompson. She cared deeply for her coworkers, keeping up with them over the years and had been thoroughly enjoying her retirement since 2009. She enjoyed spending her time scouring garage sales, craft sales, and thrift stores, complaining about A&W’s breakfast and hearing the latest gossip with her friends.

Our family would specifically like to thank Elisabeth’s wonderful neighbours, Tanya and Dale Monkman for their continued support, friendship and care.

We will miss Elisabeth tremendously, particularly for her enthusiasm, generosity, humour, and resilience.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Selkirk Legion.

Please enjoy the following humorous poem written for Elisabeth by her grandkids for her 60th birthday:

Look at you Gramma you’re 5 foot 2,
And your only daughter hit you with a shoe.
She hit you so hard she made you cry,
It seemed that you thought you were going to die.
Once again you’ve cheated death,
60 years and you still have breath,
Garage sales, arts and crafts.
Junior Rifle and Income Tax.
All these things you’re compelled to do,
If you were a horse you’d be turned to glue.
Appetizers, dinner, desserts and wine,
If you’ve got the Stovetop everyone’s fine.
Thank you, Gramma for everything you do,
We hope that our poem doesn’t make you blue.
We love you!

Sharon Darlene Stebeleski (nee Waytowich)

October 26, 1954 – September 24, 2023

On September 24, 2023 Sharon passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 68.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years Merv; two daughters, Chelsea (Steve), Sarah (Jolyne), grandsons Finn and Kai, sister Barb (Gerry), friends and relatives.

Sharon was born at the Shoal Lake Hospital on October 26, 1954 to Stephen and Margaret Waytowich. She graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Manitoba. After graduating, she worked at Mony Life and CP Rail. During her employment at CP Rail, after a health issue affected her eyesight, her interests shifted and she began studying holistic healing and herbal medicine. This new chapter took Sharon on many trips to conferences and workshops, fulfilling her passion for reading and continually learning everything she could about healing others and herself. Sharon opened her own business, Naturally Yours, where she specialized in helping not only humans but animals as well.

Sharon had a real love for animals, which lead to the family relocating to acreage in Lorette, Manitoba where they lived for 22 years. Here, they raised horses, cats, dogs, goats, and chickens. What started as a hobby farm quickly grew into another business venture for Sharon where the family helped breed high quality, warmblood horses, which were sold across North America.

Sharon was a very spirited soul and would go all out in many things in her life. In the past year, she took up a passion for succulent plants. Every morning she would greet them with a smile and a “good morning.” As with many of her passions, a couple of plants quickly grew into a jungle with plants in every room of the house. She loved when her two grandsons would come visit and sing and dance for her. She could watch them for hours play with their favorite race car track, which they would assemble throughout her house.

The family would like to thank VIP Homecare and all those who helped care for Sharon, many of whom became close friends. Special thank you to Health Care Aides Catherine, Samara, Bunmi, Magdelena, Barb and Mayanie.

Keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on November 10, 2023 at Coutu Funeral Chapel at 2:00pm at 680 Archibald St. Winnipeg.

Diane Margaret McMillan

June 3rd 1934 – October 8th 2023

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Diane Margaret McMillan (nee Upritchard) on October 8th at the age of 89.  Diane is survived by her husband of 68 years, David; several nieces and nephews and many close friends.

Diane was born June 3rd, 1934 at the Winnipeg General Hospital and grew up in Pointe du Bois, Manitoba.  She spoke of happy childhood memories in “Pointe” and contributed information to those documenting the history of the town in recent years.

After their marriage in 1955, David’s career with Manitoba Hydro took them from Pointe du Bois to Winnipeg to Thompson and then to Gillam.  Pre-retirement, they bought a home in Pinawa where they spent many years enjoying their hobbies and making life long friends.  When it became necessary to downsize, they moved to an apartment in Lac du Bonnet and later to Selkirk.

Diane was well known for her athleticism and love of sports.  She was a skilled competitor on the fastball diamond (ladies and mixed), curling rink, bowling lanes and golf course, often finishing events in the prize circle.  She took her game very seriously but also enjoyed the camaraderie and social aspect of competition.  In later years, she became an avid follower of elite curling teams and rarely missed watching curling events aired on TV.

Spending time on her computer was a favorite pastime.  Diane enjoyed communicating with friends/exchanging jokes on email and playing games.  She was a member of Facebook, Instagram and once belonged to an online card playing group where she became friends with other players from places as far away as Australia, even meeting some of them in person.  She visited websites to keep informed about current affairs and other interests.

Diane and David travelled to many destinations over the years but none more often than Sydney, a municipality of Victoria B.C.  They always rented a suite overlooking the ocean and enjoyed sitting or walking along the waterfront.

As per Diane’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on Diane’s memorial page by using the comment field below.
