July 27, 1939 – December 02, 2023

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, Larry Weber on December 02, 2023, at the age of 84.

Larry is survived by his children Wade (Gale), Wendy Fraser (Clem), Robin Weber and mother of his children Yvonne Weber. His grandchildren Amanda Dubois (Michael), Ashley Weber (Darryl Merritt), Jocelyn Fraser, Mathew Fraser (Sydney Fehr), Jade Levacque, and his great grandson Deacon Dubois….(so big…). He is pre-deceased by his father Clarence.

Larry was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He spent most of his career at Honeywell. He then moved to J. Hansen and Son and then finally ABCO. When he retired, he moved to the small town of Gimli, Manitoba and stayed busy with various small jobs. He especially loved cutting grass for all his neighbors around Loni Beach and doing small handyman work.

A few of Larry’s favorite past times were photography, music, bowling, dancing, shooting pool and golfing. Larry enjoyed a good round of golf at Gimli Golf Course among all other courses in the Interlake. At any function, if there was a Polka or Jive, you would see him on the dance floor. Let’s not forget him always skunking you at cribbage. Larry was so proud of his cottage in Gimli that he made it his retirement home, where he met and enjoyed spending time with his friends John, Ken, Cam and Helen. Larry had a loud personality, and you always knew when he was in the room. He was the life of any party. Growing up you could not ask for a better father. He was always involved in our activities and only had to ask once.

Larry will be missed by all associated with him. 

We would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses of Gimli General Hospital for taking care of Dad during his many visits. We would also like to thank the nurses and aids at the Betel Home Foundation for caring for dad in his final months.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Evergreen Basic Needs in Gimli, Manitoba.

As per Larry’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no service, but please honor dad by having a beer in his memory.

Dorothy Mary Cannon (nee Kruse)

Dorothy Mary Cannon (nee Kruse) passed to her rest on November 22, 2023, at Park Manor Care at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur.

Dorothy was born in Middlesex, England on August 12, 1934. She married her best friend and love of her life, Arthur, on September 18, 1955, in Islington, England. They took the adventure of their lives moving to Canada after their honeymoon. Both became proud Canadians in 1967.

Dorothy’s faith in God and her dedication to the Seventh-day Adventist faith helped her meet the many challenges in life, especially the passing of Arthur in 1997 in Sooke, British Columbia.

She is survived by her children, Julie Perry (Ken), Lloyd Cannon (Janet) and grandchildren Jeremy Perry (Sybrenia Chittick), Robert and James Cannon and nieces and nephew in England.

Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her husband at Sooke Harbour Cemetery at a later date.

Family wish to express their appreciation to the dedicated staff on 2E Concordia Hospital and especially the staff and friends at Park Manor Care for the loving compassionate care provided over the past 2½ years as a resident.

Elmer David McMillan

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of David McMillan on November 19, at the age of 96.

David was pre-deceased by his wife Diane (Upritchard) in October, 2023. He will be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews along with many close friends.

David was born in Dallas, MB.

David started his musical career at a very young age getting his first fiddle at 13. He loved to compete all over Canada and the USA. He also loved to play at community events and senior homes with his fellow fiddlers. He continued his passion with the Manitoba Fiddle Association and was recognized in 2010 for his achievements.

David was also an avid sailor/canoeist. One of David’s other great achievements was being recognized as an honorable member with North of 60 Chapter, Order of Artic Adventure. The McMillan trait of being adventurous and musically inclined is being left behind in many of his nephews and nieces throughout North America.

David met and married Diane while being an electrical apprentice with Winnipeg Hydro in Pointe du Bois later working for Manitoba Hydro. Prior to retirement they purchased a home in Pinawa, MB. to enjoy their many hobbies and to be close to lifelong friends and family.

As per David’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Lawrence Alvin Steffan

Lawrence Alvin Steffan was born on February 7, 1931 in Thalberg Manitoba to parents Karl Peter and Ottilie Steffan. His father passed away in 1937, and shortly thereafter, Ottilie moved to the Steinbach area and was remarried.

Lawrence left school after 5th grade and worked on farms, like the Peters farm, in and around Steinbach. He met his wife Sara Francis Guenther at Peters Hotel in Steinbach.  They were married on November 14 1952 and settled in Winnipeg.  They had 3 children, Richard Barry (d. Laverna), Gary Lorne (Cheryl), and Kenneth Wayne (Pauline).

Lawrence worked for CN as a porter and was the owner of a taxi franchise.  He retired from his work as a machine operator for Dominion Bridge in 1994, after working there for 29 years.

He passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023 at Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk. He was predeceased by his wife Sara in 2012, and brothers Melvin and Ernie Steffan and his granddaughter Leanna.

He is survived by his 3 sons and their families and will be missed by many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, his orange toque, and his love of sweets.  When asked if a dessert was good, he would always say, “I’ll tell you after my second piece”.  His favourite song, which touched him every time, was I Come to the Garden Alone.

He will be greatly missed. 

There will be a private family funeral where Lawrence will be laid to rest with his wife Sara.

Tiana Anne Lynne Obirek

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunty and niece on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

She is survived by her mother, Michelle Obirek, siblings Dylan, Devon and Tatum Obirek. Grandparents Dan and Sharon Obirek, Uncle Derek Obirek (Angela and Fergie), nephew Drayden Sumner, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings of the Langlois and McChesney families.

Tiana was creative with drawing, enjoyed family outings and spending time at her grandparents house. She had a lot of good friends, that when together, there was a lot of laughing, singing and fun antics happening. There was never a dull moment when Tiana was around. She was full of wit and always had a smart come back.

Rest in peace our beautiful “Bean Gurl.” We all love you and are truly going to miss you very much.

Fly free beautiful angel.
