September 5, 1941 – November 5, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and Nana, Gail Scalisi (née McLeod), at her home on November 5, 2025, at the age of 84.
Gail was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, her parents Alexander and Violet McLeod, her son-in-law Jeff Martin, and her siblings Fredrick, Joyce, and Ernest McLeod along with their spouses.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters Heather Marie, Susan Violet (Wayne), and Sandra Lee (Mark); her cherished grandchildren Alexandra (Adrian), Rae (Steve), Kyle, Luke, Eric (Samantha), and Carter (Bree); and her adored great-grandchildren Luca, Rosie, and Theodore. Gail also leaves behind her sister Jean, nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, and extended family who loved her dearly.
Gail grew up on Templeton Avenue in West Kildonan and attended West Kildonan Collegiate. She began her working life at Winnipeg Photo and Eaton’s before spending over 30 years with Westfair Foods.
She met her lifelong partner, Joseph, at a canteen dance, and they married on September 19, 1959. Together, they raised three daughters and built a loving home in Elmwood and East Kildonan before retiring to Sandy Hook in 1999.
A devoted wife, mother, and Nana, Gail had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and special. She loved shopping, decorating, and baking for her family, and her love for music and singing filled their home with joy. Gail was the backbone of her family—her strength, selflessness, and beautiful soul were evident in everything she did. She created a life rich with traditions, and love.
Gail treasured time at the lake, camping at Rushing River, and hosting gatherings where her home was always full of family and friends. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life, and she instilled in them values, traditions, and a wonderful sense of humor. Trips to Italy with Joseph were among her most cherished memories, and she delighted in seeing her children and grandchildren embrace the culture. Shopping trips to Grand Forks with her daughters and friends were another highlight, often filled with laughter and adventure.
Gail’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and warmth. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family, her generosity, and her ability to make everyone feel truly loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, 1:00 p.m. at the Kildonan Community Church, 2373 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB.

My condolences to the Scalisi family on the passing of Gail. I was a friend of Susan at university, and spent time at her home with her family. I remember the delicious meals and lively conversations. I always felt so welcome in their home. Rest in peace, Gail, you will be dearly missed.
My deepest condolences to all the families. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. ❤️
I’m so sorry for the loss of your Mom. My parents, Len and Carol Smith were good friends with Auntie Gail and Uncle Joe. Your parents always treated us so well. I’m sure they’re all sharing a drink together and watching over all of us.
Sending love and prayers,
Cara
