Lawrence Raymond Hackie

January 25, 1948 – November 8, 2025

Unexpectedly, Larry passed away on November 8, 2025 at the age of 77 years.

Larry was a very talented professional musician, over a 50 plus year career, travelling all over playing many genres of music.

His passion continued after retirement, where he participated in entertaining residents of senior’s homes in Selkirk & Gimli with Otters Croft & Jammers as well as other events.

He walked dogs in Winnipeg & Gimli, where over the years became attached to 3. Maggie his favorite, was certainly his best walking buddy. He also enjoyed sitting on the deck of their Whytewold home waving or chatting with the occasional passerby.

He was predeceased by parents Anna & Lawrence Hackie.

Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ellie, his extended family of brother & sister-in-law’s – Ed Tyslau (Janet), Ron Tyslau, Carol Lashmar (Guy), Darren Tyslau (Esmer), Richard Tyslau (Cheryl), many nieces and nephews as well as close longtime friends.

A special thank you to the Paramedics who attended Larry.

A private family celebration will be planned.

    Larry,
I have known you for 45 plus years as your sister in law. I enjoyed our little chats along the way. It was a pleasure to know you and don’t worry we will take good care of Ellie for you. I am expecting you to pull out the guitar and play a little tune when we meet again.
See you when I see you my friend ❤️

Ellie, we think about you every single day and are still saddened by Larry’s sudden passing. We wish we could take away your pain, but life doesn’t work that way – it is because we loved so deeply that we feel the tremendous pain in loss….and what a gift that everlasting love is. ❤️ I love you , Sis. I will always be beside you – you will not walk this road alone.

When I think about Larry, so many memories come up.

I’ll miss the way he would greet us from the back deck every time we came to visit, as though he’d been waiting all day just to say hello.

I’ll forever be thankful that he and his band played at our wedding social. It is such a special memory, made even more meaningful now. 🎸

I’ll always remember the laughs we shared. Even when those laughs were at his expense, he was always so gracious, smiling and laughing right along with us.
(Sorry Larry – you know that’s what happens when you get Ellie and I together! 🤡🤡)

I have so much respect for the love he had for you, Ellie. He loved you fiercely, faithfully, and fully, and wanted only to be with you, right to the end. ❤️

Larry lived with a love for music that shaped so much of who he was. Whenever I shared stories, photos or videos of the kids or Guy playing a musical instrument, his eyes would light up. It was as if part of his life purpose was to see others experience the love of music the way he did. It was pure JOY. 🎵

Material things never mattered to Larry. He wasn’t jealous, he wasn’t envious….he lived life his way, unapologetically and authentically. And today, it makes me look at life a little differently too. 🙏

Rest easy, Larry. Thank you for the music, the laughter, the love, and the lessons. You’ll be missed more than words can say. 💙

    Love Carol, Guy and family
