December 28, 1944 – August 1, 2025
It is with deep sadness the family announces the sudden passing of David at the age of 80 years.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 55 years Kathy, his pride and joy, his children Michael (Laura), Christine and James, dearest to his heart his grand-children Liam, Zoey, Max, Katrina, and Kaitlyn as well as sister Rose (Mark) and many more family and friends.
As per David’s request, cremation has taken place and a service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Atlantic-Garden City United Church, 725 Atlantic Avenue, Winnipeg, MB., at 10:00 a.m.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on David’s memorial page using the comment field below.

I am so very grateful for my Stairs heritage. David leaves me with only good memories. He spent time with John and I when he was still a teenager. I remember visits to Salsberry House and a gallon of orange drink from the Millionaire drive in. I remember his first cars and then the brand new 64 Beaumont. The 3 of us tented our way to Expo 67 in Montreal, a pretty brave move for Dave at only 22 years old. We made it back in time for Rose and Mark’s wedding.
When Dave and Kath got married in 1970 Calgary claimed them for a bit. 1976 found them back in Winnipeg where 4 of our family now worked at Kingsway trucking. Neil was in the warehouse, John drove, Dave and I were both mechanics. After grandpa passed away, we challenged ourselves to support the Red Cross blood donor program.
Life moves on in a blink. I am so very grateful we were able to gather for my birthday in June. I could never have thought this vibrant man would be called to rest so soon.
With tears of love, respect and gratitude. #8 of the 7 Stairs clan, George
We were sorry to hear of the passing of Dave. Brian just had a great conversation and catch up with him the day of his passing. The lake families will really miss him.

So sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of playing volleyball with Dave. Thought and prayers to you all.
Our condolences to the family. We met Dave and Kathy many years ago when we joined Hydro X and they were among the first people to reach out and welcome us into the organization. Over the years we have shared many events with Dave and Kathy and we found them to be a warm and embracing couple. From the many dinners we shared to the many Hydro X bus trips we developed a camaraderie that we will cherish. Go in peace Dave.
Our heartfelt sympathy to your family. Dave’s passing was a shock and our prayers are with Kathy and her children at this very difficult time. Over the past fourteen years Dave and Kathy became coffee buddies and Dave enjoyed sharing his childhood stories. Our sympathy Linda & Wayne Stannard
Rest in peace my dear uncle Dave. I love my Stairs family and am filled with only the best of memories. I thank God daily for each of my aunts and uncles and the leadership they shared. Dave played a huge role even when he was a teenager delivering newspapers. At only 22 he took John and I to Expo 67 in Montreal, but he was sure to get back for Rose and Mark’s wedding.
It was a privilege to work in the garage at Kingsway Transport with Dave. An added bonus was Neil and John being part of the company too.
Grandparents. cousins and the cottage at Matlock all hold special meaning.
Being sort of #8 of the Stairs 7 got me so very included in their youth years and in many ways we share adulthood and ageing.
I am so glad he and Kath were here in Sundown in June. He seemed in the best of health and his only cloud was how to serve the needs of his children and Kathy as new unknowns would occur. This is a picture of a man of honor.
Love George
