It is with great sadness that the family of Ron Kolbauer announce his passing at Concordia Hospital on Wednesday, June 4th at the age of 81.
He is survived by his wife Joan; his children Laura Lynn (Peter), Jason (Tracey), and Kristi; and his cherished grandchildren Zoe, Pierce, Ryann, Emma, and Logan. He is also survived by his brother Bob (Lucy), sisters Doreen and Linda, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Mildred and Louis, and his siblings Richard and Myrna.
Growing up in Winnipeg Ron had lots of interesting stories to tell about his youth, working at carnivals and pool halls followed by employment with the Canadian National Railway. In 1967 he began his career in law enforcement when he joined the East Kildonan Police Department. Following the city’s amalgamation, he served in various districts across WinnipegโSt. Boniface, Transcona, the North End, and in the Communications and Juvenile Division but he found his greatest fulfillment as a Community Relations officer. Ron retired in 1993 with the rank of Sergeant II from the Winnipeg Police Department. He also served for many years on the board of directors at the Winnipeg Police Credit Union.
Outside of work and into his retirement, Ron was a devoted reader, movie buff, card player, and crossword enthusiast. Known for his sharp mind, Ron rarely missed a trivia question. He loved to golf with his brother and many memorable games were shared over the years, full of laughter, good-natured competition, and cherished family time. He was a proud founding member of the Winnipeg Pin Collector’s Club, where he found joy and community through a shared passion.
Ron had a special place in his heart for animals, especially the family cats Ginger and Duffy. He delighted in spending time with his “grand-pets” and was always quick to offer a pat or a gentle scratch behind the ears.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Donations in Ronโs memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, an organization that reflects his lifelong love of animals.
Dad, you were a devoted husband, an amazing father, and an extraordinary grandfather. Your presence brought warmth and strength to our lives, and your absence will be deeply felt by all who loved you most.

Mr. Kolbauer was always so good to me. My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the Kolbauer family.
Uncle Ron, thank you for so many great memories starting at a very young age on Simpson Avenue and all the way into my adulthood. Always the class of the event whether it was Super Bowl parties, Grey Cup get togethers or so many rounds of golf we shared, everything was made better by your presence. I always looked up to you and forever will.
I had the privilege of meeting Ron through his loving wife Joan who became my friend at Sage Creek. One Christmas ๐ we joined forces to tackle the tree lights for Joan .His job was to check the burnt ones, and replace them with the ones I handed him. We must have repeated this a few times until Joan pointed out, we had reloaded the burnt lights. Ron and I took no responsibility for this action as Joan was the one handling the bulbs, what good laugh ๐. In the end the tree ๐ฒ was a perfect glow, and I remember Ron saying do we still need the tree? Of course we needed the ๐ฒ, as Joan reminded him it would not be Christmas ๐ with it. Such a warm memory being able to share their humour over a Christmas evening. He always took time to chat and be interested in what was going on, I guess a long career in the forces would teach great communication skills, he clearly had that. Gone way too fast but will not be forgotten. Sending his entire family my condolences, may he rest in ๐๏ธ peace.
Joan, I was really saddened to read about the passing of Ron. It is hard to lose your life partner and I do indeed understand your sadness. Blessings to you and your family. I know it will be hard to get over and you probably never really will but please know I am with you in this and I love you.
I’m so sorry to hear about Ron’s passing. I haven’t seen my cousin for many years, but have very fond memories of my visits. My thoughts are with the whole family!
So sad to hear of Ron’s passing. Really enjoyed working with Ron over the years in East Kildonan and with the Winnipeg Police Service in the Communications Division. Always a gentleman and a great Police Officer. He will be missed by many of his previous coworkers and friends. Condolences to Joan and all the Family.

We send our deepest condolences and our love to the Kolbauer family during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of knowing Ron from a young age, as I am best friends with his daughter Laura. Over the years, I spent a lot of time at their home, and Ron was always kind and welcoming to me. I remember his as a devoted family man, hardworking, and someone who led by example. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him,โค๏ธ
Thank you Lorraine and Rod for those thoughtful words. I know you know firsthand how hard it is to say goodbye to our parents.
