Baldur Sveinn Holm

August 1, 1943 – February 18, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Baldur Sveinn Holm at the age of 81 on February 18, 2025.

Baldur was born on August 1, 1943 in Gimli, MB to Dori and Margaret Holm spending his early years in Lac du Bonnet. He had fond memories growing up there where he ran an insurance firm, curled and played/coached/managed baseball. He was a volunteer fireman and was the town mayor for 4 years.

Throughout the years, Baldur worked at various insurance brokers and was a bus driver for Winnipeg Transit for approximately 15 years while running his own business (HubCap Man). He also drove a school bus for Prairie Rose School Division and Red River Valley School Division.

His favorite pastime was sitting on his recliner watching hockey (GO JETS GO), baseball, wrestling, and the History channel. That is where he took his last breath.

He will be lovingly remembered by Anne Fossay and her family, who Baldur loved dearly, and his brother Allan and wife Beatrice.

In accordance with Baldur’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a family internment will occur at a later date.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on Baldur’s memorial page by using the comment field below.

Dear Anne please accept my sincere condolences!! As you are aware Baldur and I go back a long way. I first met Baldur in grade school in LDB , we became close friends, in fact we lived on the same street . As we got older we shared the same interests, curling ,bowling , water skiing and many trips to Pine Falls .
We lost touch for awhile as I moved away from LDB. We later re-established our friendship and spent many hours on the phone reminiscing about old times ,baseball and hockey . Anne would say we were like two old ladies on the phone . I will certainly miss my ( younger by 19 days ) friend .
    Rest peacefully my friend.

Sincere condolences to family and friends on the loss of Baldur. I remember when Cliff (Peanut) played baseball and curled with Baldur in Lac du Bonnet, years back. Baldur always had a ready smile, an easy going manner, and it was fun to share stories and have a few chuckles. Sometimes Baldur would be in Lac du Bonnet for July 1 weekend and we enjoyed reconnecting and having a little catch up there too. He will be missed and fondly remembered.
