It is with profound sadness that the family of Alice Watters announce her peaceful passing on October 24, 2024 (just days shy of her 99th birthday) at Pine Falls Hospital.

Mom was born in Selkirk, MB and grew up in the Gunton area. Later she moved to Winnipeg where she was a proud member of the St John’s Ambulance during the war years.

She dedicated her professional life to the Greater Winnipeg Gas Company where she worked until her retirement in 1988.

Following her retirement mom made the cottage at Hillside Beach her permanent home, where she created countless cherished memories. She became an active member with the Merry Makers and the EB Social Scene at Victoria Beach. Mom also enjoyed spending winters on the desert in Arizona where she made many lasting connections. Mom enjoyed visiting with people and cherished family gatherings & celebrations.

She will be deeply missed by husband Grant, daughters Pat (Danny), Cathy (Glenn), grandchildren Lisa, Cynthia (Coert), Jennifer (Dave), Keri (Al) & Trevor as well as by her six great- grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren.  Mom is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews.

In accordance with mom’s wishes cremation has taken place and a family internment will occur at a later date.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Pine Falls Hospital for their excellent care and compassion of our mom.

So sorry to hear the passing of your mother. Since I’ve known her through Donna, she was aways warm and welcoming. I enjoyed our times at the Summer Winds Festival and the many times at family gatherings.

A lovely lady and will be sorely missed. I remember coming over on vacation with my Mum Jean and my two children who were 5 and 4 at the time, the children were having breakfast and couldn’t believe their little eyes when a Momma Bear and her two bear cubs walked across Aunt Alice’s yard their faces were a picture, sleep well lovely lady, lots of love from your family in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💜

I have known Alice, or as I liked to call my Lake Mom, Mrs. Watters, since I was 2 years old.
She always had a warm smile for me even when I was being a brat.
She had a very kind and giving soul that I was lucky enough to have known.
Thank you my Lake Mom for showing me how to be a better person.
You are and will be missed forever and ever.

    Cathy and family,
My sincere condolences to you and your family . I always remember being welcome and relaxed at your mom’s house at Hillside beach and loved their beautiful german shepherd dog Rex. I can still hear your mom’s laugh. Wonderful person.
    Sincerely, Lynda Smith

I am so very sad to lose Aunty Alice. She was the last senior family member to connect us to our Scottish heritage and our grandparents. I only knew love from her and I will miss our phone conversations. Cathy & Uncle Grant, my most sincere sympathies are with you and your family. Know that I share your sorrow.

    Dear Cathy, Glenn and Family,
I’m so sorry for your loss. I remember your Mom as always having a warm smile on her face. When you and I used to hang out in the summer, Cathy, your Mom always offered a cup of tea or a cold drink. Whenever I saw her, she always seemed to be listening to someone’s story, again with that warm smile! I’m sure she will be missed.

    Cathy and family,
I only learned of your mom’s passing yesterday. I was walking around the block at the lake when I met up with Grant, taking his new knee for a walk! I am so sorry for your loss. We’ve all lost a beautiful gift! I’m also so glad that I’d dropped in to visit a couple of times over the last couple of years. Welcomed as usual, even after so many years have passed.
May you all find strength in your shared and loved memories!
