It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of
Antonia, our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother on
May 23, 2024. Mom was born in Chatfield, Manitoba on July 29,
1931.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children; Gary (Debbie),
Terry, and Shirley Vandale (Claude). Her grandchildren; Brandi
(Erik), Tyler (Zephyra), Carly (Enis), Travis, and Sarah (Eric). Her
great grandchildren; Lilly, Ivor and Keanu. As well as numerous
in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Antonia was predeceased by her husband Michael Kohut, parents
William and Tekla Skrabek, stepfather John Skomoroh, brothers
John, Roy, Nick, Tony, Harry, Walter, and Fred. Stepbrothers;
Mike, Harry, Fred, George, Walter, and Nick.
In 1953, she married Dad and they raised their family in East
Kildonan. They started a family business, K&L Cartage Ltd. and
worked together for 30 years, until their retirement in 1988.
She found great joy in spending time with her family, especially
supporting her children and grandchildren in their various
activities. She was an avid gardener; a competitive bowler, and
enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and day trips to the casino.
Mom lived in her home on Nottingham for 62 years, where family
gathered often, especially for Sunday get togethers. One way
Antonia showed her love was by cooking for her family. She
cooked many Ukrainian favourites including perogies,
headcheese and cabbage rolls. She warmed our bellies and our
hearts, and passed along her traditions to her family.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the
staff at River East Personal Care Home for the exceptional care
and kindness Mom received.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.
A Funeral will be held on Thursday June 6th at 2:00 at E.J. Coutu
Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street.

So sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of your mom and her wonderful cooking. May your memories bring you comfort
I liked Tony the moment I first met her. She was sharp as a tack… witty…had a unique sense of humour. I’m pretty sure the wool never got pulled over her eyes. Ever.
My sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. I have so many wonderful memories of Auntie Toni. Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, and forever in our hearts and memories.
So very sorry to hear of Aunt Toni’s passing. Although I didn’t get to know her well I do remember your family’s visits to see us in Thunder Bay. As a chid when I learned of all her brothers and stepbrothers, I knew she just had to be a strong woman. As you celebrate her life, you know she was loved and will be remembered. May our Auntie rest in peace.
To the entire family of Aunty Toni, please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your loved one (Aunty Toni). Her memory will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Antonia was a sweet lady and I enjoyed our short shorts while cleaning her room at River East.
She loved watching cooking shows and sports.
It saddened me when her health declined.
What a wonderful dedicated family.
Aunty Toni was and is very special to all of us. Spent a lot of time with her and the family whenever we travelled to Winnipeg which was often. She was an amazing lady and a great aunt so welcoming caring and loving like all of you. Thank you for the video watching it brings back all those great memories and the special love we have for Aunty Toni and all of you. She will be missed.
