Walter Nicholas Gallant

April 2, 1952 – January14, 2023

Walter “Wally” Gallant was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world peacefully on January 14, 2023.

He is survived and missed by his wife of 50 years, Darlene Gallant, his dog Lucky, and his children Cindy (Mike) Burrell; Kenneth (Joanne) Gallant, and Kristin (Aaron) De Souza. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his grandchildren, Caitlyn, Braeden, Brody, and Kolton.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and two brothers.

Wally was born on April 2, 1952, in Rossburn, MB. He was the son of Adolph and Margaret and grew up on a farm until he was nine years old when he moved to Winnipeg.

After graduating from high school, Wally chased his dreams as a diesel Mechanic and spent most of his career working at Cummins Mid Canada, retiring in 2017. He was known as the ROAD GUY and spent many days and nights fixing heavy machinery in Western and Northern Manitoba.

He met his wife, Darlene, in the early 1970s. And soon after, they started a family. Some of his greatest joys came from spending time and creating many memories with his family while enjoying trips and camping all over Manitoba, Ontario, and parts of the USA. He also volunteered as a coach for his kid’s teams and always loved sharing advice on life skills.

He took an active role in his grandchildren’s lives and loved taking them to hockey games, School events, and camping. Wally also enjoyed bowling, darts, golf, hockey, and playing poker with his family.

In 2019, Wally was diagnosed with ALS. His battle with the disease in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Wally came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

The family would like to thank ALS Manitoba, healthcare workers family, and friends for their assistance, care, and compassion over the past three years.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 22, at 2:00 p.m., at the Holy Eucharist Parish Centre located at 460 Munroe Avenue.

I would like to extend my condolences to Darlene and family. I worked with Wally for many years. I started at Cummins when I was very young and he was like a big brother to me. I have enormous respect for him, a great man and friend gone way to soon.

I am extending my most sincere condolences to Darlene and family on the passing of Wally. We shared many fun times when we were young and just starting out with new families. I will always remember the kind hearts of you and Wally, even helping us with a couple of moves and cat sitting. Even though our lives took different paths, I often thought our you and Wally and the good times we shared. Sending you and your family love and prayers in this difficult time.
