Helmut Schmidt

June 24, 1953 – September 2, 2022

On Friday, September 2, 2022, at the age of 69, Helmut passed away suddenly due to complications from an aggressive form of cancer. His beloved wife Susan of 43 years was there holding him in her arms as his spirit left her side at their home.

His daughter Robyn that he so deeply loved, along with his son-in-law Robbie, who meant the absolute world to him were right by his side as he officially passed at 5:55 a.m., while receiving his angel numbers. The meaning of angel number 555 is all about transition and welcoming change.

It is a friendly reminder and warning from your angels and guides that it is safe to make change that is on your mind. It is a message that you have to trust your inner intuition with this decision and know that you are divinely protected…protected he was.

Waiting to see his smiling face again were his mother Elfriede and one of his best friends Tony, along with his many fur babies.

He leaves behind his incredible father Walter, his siblings and in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless friends who he cherished so much, along with his niece Taylor whom he shared a very special bond with.

Helmut was an amazing, extremely loyal and kind hearted man who absolutely loved to make people laugh. His cackle was infectious and if he was teasing you, you knew you were special to him. His talents as a finishing carpenter were undeniable and truly remarkable. His skill set led to he and his wife’s labour of love, building their dream home where they raised their daughter. Many cherished memories were had here hosting fabulous dinners, countless pool parties and corn roasts. These traditions will remain as Helmut was his happiest when he was sharing laughs with the ones he loved.

Although his passing was sudden, his fight was mighty!!!!  A warrior to say the very least.

We would like to thank all of the doctors and staff at HSC and Selkirk Hospitals who helped in his care and transition.

A Celebration of Life will follow.

“Your presence we miss, your memories we treasure, loving you always, forgetting you never.”

It is with such a heavy heart that I learn of your passing! So many great years of fun, experiences and growing up, culminated in an never ending friendship.
50 years ago I left Winnipeg, and every phone call, every in person encounter, no matter how much time had passed, continued as though we had never skipped a beat! It seems as though it was just yesterday I was listening to you cackling at one of your own bad jokes and could not help but laugh along uncontrollably!
Many in my life have passed, all cherished and deeply missed, but you my friend, will be missed most sincerely and have brought on an overwhelming consciousness of my own mortality.
You were loved by so many… me included!

As we write this we do so with heavy hearts acknowledging our loss.

As we look around our home, we see so many projects Helmut helped us complete. Straight, square and level, he cared about what he did. Working with Helmut was a learning experience we will never forget.

We had lots of good times as the work got done and every hour was happy hour.

Goodbye dear friend and cousin. We will miss you.

As I write this note to you… so many emotions & memories come to surface. Remembering your laugh , which always made everyone around you join in…it couldn’t be helped. The twinkle in your eye and you just knew something was about to happen… but always in a good way. School memories .. without a doubt was the best with you there. So so many “coffee” dates. LoL. A few classes were missed for fun adventures with you. You my friend completed our “friend circle”. When I think of you.. I will remember the good times I believe that’s how you would want it. But I want you to know. I will miss you, you may have left us too soon. BUT you will NEVER be forgotten. 💕

I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Helmuts sudden passing. I can only imagine how overwhelming your grief must be Susan for yourself and Family. Schmitty was so kind and so funny. I loved his infectious giggle and the sparkle in his eyes. I was touched by his value of lifelong friendships and so honored to have been included in the fall corn roast quest list. I was also so pleased to be part of your tradition and see the love you both shared at your Beautiful home and amazing yard. You both made everyone feel so welcome. To end I cant thank Schmitty enough to have shared his Master Carpentry skills at my special place Star Lake. If it wasnt for Schmittly and Pat I wouldnt have the beautiful pine window sills that adorn our cabin.
Thank you Helmut for your Beautiful Soul and Friendship. Rest in Peace
