February 26, 1939 – April 11, 2022
It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Dad, Rufus Alexander Prince at the age of 83, on April 11, 2022.
He will forever be lovingly remembered by his children: Donna (John), Maggie (John), Stanley and Gail (Lawrence); siblings Anne, Susan and Glen; Grandchildren: Jacqueline, Julian, Alex, John, Daniel, and Krystyna; great grandchildren: Hayley, Sylus, Kayleigh and Kevin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rufus was pre-deceased by his parents Rufus Alexander Prince and Mary Madeleine Prince (nee Clarke): Brothers Roy, Bill, Melvin and Betson; and Sisters Dorothy, Elaine, Lillian and Marion.
Rufus was born on February 26, 1939 in Bissett, Manitoba, moved to Winnipeg as a young man, met and married Rosemarie Maxine Annie McFadyen in 1964, pre-deceased April 1, 2022. He worked in the mines in Bissett, MB. He then relocated to BC in 1965 with his young family and over the next decade he worked in various lumber mills in Hixon, BC. Rufus returned to Manitoba in the mid 70’s and then on he worked in the construction trade until he retired in 2004.
Rufus enjoyed fishing and watching hockey in his leisure time, his favourite team was the Maple Leafs. He enjoyed walking and often ended up visiting family for a coffee and good conversation. He was one the best story tellers, and his laugh was infectious.
Rufus was a generous and protective man. If you knew him, he probably helped you in some way. He gave so much of himself to the people he loved and never asked for anything in return.
A special thank you to Fred Douglas Lodge and the Evergreen Team, the nursing students from University of Manitoba and the volunteer students from Louis Riel School for their dedication to Rufus’s health and comfort.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. If friends desire, please consider a donation in Rufus’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

I can’t even express my sorrow of losing you such a short time after losing Mom. It has been beyond devastating and my heart just keeps breaking more and more. We missed so much in our younger years not being together but I have many absolutely amazing times with you through out my adult life. I will cherish every moment that we had together. I loved seeing you with the great grandkids and the instant love there was. I love you Dad and I’m going to miss you always. I so wanted to hug you one more time, I love technology and being able to video call you and hear you say you love me and to hear you laughter filled heart which is where you’ll be for the rest of my days. Forever and Always my Daddy 🖤
Our deepest condolences to your family. Your father will be remembered as a man that was kind, caring and one that truly loved his family. When I think about him, I immediately think of his smile.
