Bernice Onishko

1930 – 2018

We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our dear Bernice (Baba) Onishko at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre on August 9, 2018, at the age of 88 years old, surrounded by her family who meant the world to her.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Dennis) Kozoway and Tracy Onishko; her son Terry (Sherry) Onishko; her grandchildren Kaylin (Joel), Brad (Sals), Mike (Kayla); her sister Phyllis Wusaty, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and John Stolar, and numerous brothers and sisters.

Mom was a strong, kind hearted and fiercely independent woman.  She has cooked meals for over 50 years at various restaurants in Selkirk, but her favourite was cooking for her children and grandchildren at home.  Although she was limited with her hearing impairment, she loved her walks and great conversations with people she met.  Her Blue Jays, Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers were also her favourite pastimes, always cheering them on.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lindenschmidt, the staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre and the MAID team for their care and comfort.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date.
