March 12, 1934 – March 28, 2024
David was born in Winnipeg, MB on March 12, 1934 and passed away on March, 28, 2024 at the age of 90.
He is predeceased by his parents, William and Alexandrina (Gibb), his brothers, John, Archibald, and Robert, and his sisters Margaret, and Helen.
He is survived by his 4 children who he raised on Harcourt Street in St. James: Patti-Jo (Doug) Russell, Danny, youngest daughter who requested she not be named and Jimmy (Edna). He also leaves 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He had a great love of all animals, especially his dog Jackie.
David loved to drive cars, trucks and busses. He drove a delivery truck between Minneapolis and Winnipeg for a furniture company called Ideal Brass for many years. Then he worked for Winnipeg Transit for the next 26 years before retiring on December 14, 1996. Dad wanted to be the first bus out of the St. James garage in the morning, loved his regular passengers, called out all the streets with rhymes and when pulling up to a busy bus stop would request over the PA system “all the good-looking ones please move to the back of the bus, we need room for more passengers”. He was bus driver of the year on two occasions.
Dave also spent many hours volunteering with The Boy Scouts of Canada, St. John’s Ambulance and the Salvation Army for several years.
David raised his family on Harcourt Street in St. James, lived in his condo on Kenaston before his final home in Kiwanis Courts of Ness Ave.
Dave would always end the conversation with a friendly “Keep smiling”. We know he continues to make others smile as he is reunited with his family members gone before. Dad will be missed.
The family appreciates the staff with Homecare and at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts on Ness Ave. for all the care and support provided to dad during his time living there. At Dad’s request there will not be a formal service. He will be interred in Brookside Cemetery.
