With family by his side, Reg passed away on Sunday, August 25th, 2024 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Born in his aunt’s house on November 8, 1942 in Oxford, Nova Scotia. Reg was the son of the late Cerdic and Catherine (Stubbert) Wallace. His kindness, sense of humor and unwavering support for those he loved shone thru each and every day. Reg loved to read his dad’s Bible and had unwavering faith.
Reg was a licensed journeyman mechanic by trade and tried a few different business ventures like a gas station in Malagash, Nova Scotia and a western wear store in Oxford, Nova Scotia. His true calling, however, was in sales which began in the late 1970’s with his move to Brandon, Manitoba to work for Wilton Ford. Once there he found his passion for the heavy truck industry. Reg’s knowledge in trucks then took him to many parts of northern Ontario and Manitoba. His hard work and honesty with his customers won him many awards until his retirement. His buying and selling of cars, boats or campers to trading a VW Bug for a retired racehorse led to many adventures.
Outside of work, Reg had a passion for travel. He told tales of going “across the pond” to buy “iron” and getting on the wrong plane at the Heathrow Airport. In later years with his wife Lorraine and their beloved dog, Cookie, they went on many trips including cruises which took them to Brazil and Argentina. He loved the history of the ship graveyard found in Guanabara Bay by Rio de Janeiro and the tour of Devil’s Island where he walked in the footsteps of the French penial colony prisoners. Reg also loved the adventures of going south each winter to Yuma, Arizona where he made friends easily and told them all to come for a visit. The large motorhome he purchased in later years was his pride and joy. It was his home on wheels and his motto of “go big or go home” was proof of this wonderful man’s life and the way he led it.
Reg’s love of the old time country and gospel music kept him singing at every senior home Lorraine played and sang in. The senior citizens loved his antics and he even tried dancing with one or two of them. He effortlessly gave time to teach his grandchildren card games or challenged his sister-in-law, June and her husband Harvey, to a game of crokinole.
Reg is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine of almost 25 years. He will be remembered by Lorraine’s children Dana (Colin), their children Jenna (Regan), Ashley and Tyson, Colin (Amy), their children Taylor (Chris), Luke and Jesse. Reg’s daughter Charla (Stu), their children Britta (Brent), Nikki (Bryce) and their daughter Lorenna, Brayden (Karina).
All of Reg’s children, step children, grand children and great grandchild will forever cherish the knowledge and guidance he offered. Reg will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him along with our wonderful neighbors and friends.
He will be sadly missed by brother Richard (Linda) and sister, Dorothy (Mel) from Nova Scotia and many nephews and nieces. According to Richard, Reggie in his younger years spent hours fishing on the Wallace River catching sea trout. He also enjoyed hunting large game with his brothers.
Reg’s chosen extended families include Trevor (Rhonda) and Troy (Jevne) along with their children.
Reg was predeceased by his parents Cerdic and Catherine (Stubbert), brother Douglas and his wife Anne.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on September 7, 2024 at 2:00pm in the Whiteshell Church in Seven Sisters Falls, Manitoba with Pastor Craig Glen officiating.
