It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dana Kent Murchison.
Born in Altona, Manitoba, to Florence and Edward Murchison, Dana, the fourth of six children, was raised in Winnipeg. After graduating from John Taylor Collegiate, he began his career with Canadian Pacific Railway as a pipefitter apprentice. He later earned his CIM accreditation from the University of Manitoba and spent more than three decades with CP, retiring in 2007 as Director of Human Resources.
Dana lived life to the fullest and found joy in gardening, golfing, riding his motorcycles, and spending time outdoors. He especially cherished his family and beloved pets.
Dana shared 45 years of marriage with his first wife, Margaret, with whom he raised two children, Jeffrey (Deanne) and Shannon (John). He was a devoted father who rarely missed a game, recital, concert, or milestone, and later became a proud and loving grandfather to Jaime, Sydney, Hudson, Avery, and Emery. Known affectionately as “Poppa,” he treasured every opportunity to support and celebrate his grandchildren. He was overjoyed to welcome his great grandson, Owen.
Although Winnipeg was home for most of his life, Dana spent five years living in Alberta during his career, where he enjoyed being close to the mountains he loved.
In 2020, Dana found love again with his wife, Jill. Together, they enjoyed travelling, time at the lake, and making lasting memories with their blended family.
Despite living with illness in recent years, Dana continued to enjoy time with those he loved, including his dog, Eddie. His warmth, infectious smile, and quick sense of humour remained with him until the end.
Dana will be deeply missed by his wife, Jill; his daughter Shannon (John); his grandchildren, Jaime, Sydney, Hudson, Avery, and Emery; his great-grandson, Owen; his siblings Penny and Terrie (Angie), extended family, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Edward Murchison, brothers Gary, Larrie, and Dwight, wife Margaret, and son Jeffrey.
The family extends sincere thanks to the caring staff at Kildonan Extendicare for their compassion and support.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 at Woodhaven Park Community Centre 200 Glendale Blvd at 11am
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dana’s memory may be made to the PSP Society of Canada.
