Barbara Lynn Gust

After a short stay at the Selkirk Hospital, Barb passed away on August 7, 2022 at the age of 76.

Cremation has taken place and burial will be on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 12:30pm at Little Britain Cemetery in Lockport.

Barb grew up in Winnipeg with her parents Ruth & Roy Black & her siblings; Jim, Ron, Dave. Her early years were spent hanging out with many childhood friends & attending Florence Nightingale School. She would graduate from Sisler High School.

One of Barb’s first jobs as a teenager was babysitting for $1-2 a night. That was a lot of money back then.

Barb would later meet Dan & they were married on Nov 18/72 in Winnipeg. Many years later they moved to Alberta.

While in Alberta, Barb held many jobs. She aspired to be a teacher or nurse but life had other plans. She was a dedicated hard worker outside the home. She often worked as a bookkeeper, held various administrative positions, looked after dementia residents at a long term care facility, managed a restaurant & challenged herself as an insurance agent and did great!

In her down time Barb always enjoyed crosswords, cooking & baking, camping, boating & country music. Alan Jackson was her favorite!

Christmas was always special. She prided herself in meticulously decorating the house & tree. She enjoyed all the baking & cooking, wrapping gifts, Christmas music & being with family.

Nicknames: Bobby, Pork Chop, Babs, Sam.

Many years later, she would end up returning to Winnipeg to look after her ill Mom. Her parents were everything to her. After her Mother, Ruth, passed she would then end up taking care of her Father until he was accepted into a long term care facility.

Her daughter,  Rhonda, would stay in AB & marry. She had two kids;  Austin & Ashley. Barb loved her grandkids! Fur babies also held a special place in her heart. She loved dogs and always had them by her side.

The latter part of Barb’s years would find her in an independent seniors complex in Selkirk, MB. Everyone in the complex said she was such a social butterfly; always helpful & willing to lend a hand. She even tried music instruments on music days.

Selkirk would be her final resting place. She will be missed.
