Edgar Sanford Anderson

March 8, 1932, to May 11, 2025

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Edgar on May 11, 2025, at the age of 93.

Edgar is survived by his wife of 65 years Elizabeth (nee Martyniuk), children, Ronald (Theresa), Sheila and Pam, grandsons Reinhart, Branden, granddaughter Jamie and sister Charolette, relatives, neighbours, and friends.

He was predeceased by parents, Carl and Florence, sister Florence “Lyla” and brothers Bernhard and David.

Edgar was born in the little farming town of Percival, Saskatchewan. Having no interest in carrying on the family farm, he moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, eventually settling down in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

One sunny day while at Assiniboine Park, he met the love of his life Elizabeth. They married on April 23, 1960, together they raised three children, and numerous cherished pets.

He worked a variety of jobs from shipping, sales, real estate, and hotel management in Portage La Prairie. He packed up family and moved back to Winnipeg, got a job selling lawn and snow equipment. Taking the advice of a customer, he started The Lawn Ranger, a landscaping and snow removal business until his retirement. He also did small home repairs, built stairs and fences. He was a jack of all trades always on the go to help someone out.

Throughout his lifetime his true passion was working with wood. If something broke, he would repair it with wood, better than new. If we needed something he would make it out of wood.  He built hobby toys out of wood, trucks, cranes, rocking chairs, dog and doll houses, furniture, farm animal wood carvings and more.

He was well known for his silly jokes, his gentle and kind demeanor. He would bend anyone’s ear to discuss politics and world events. He spent his leisure time with family, or down the basement in his workshop. He loved nature shows, carpentry shows and reading the newspaper. Hearing “the news is on” was a daily ritual in our household. He was a social person and well-liked by those who took the time to get to know him.

After coming down with kidney disease in his late seventies, it forced him to quit his home repair business. To occupy his time and earn pocket change for coffee dates with Elizabeth, he sought comfort in his passion for woodworking. He created his own design for birdfeeders and cottage style birdhouses. He showcased these pieces to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital where he was undergoing dialysis treatments. His crafts became so popular he could not keep up with the orders.

He suffered many health events and 15 years of dialysis treatments. Edgar spent the remainder of his time watching forensic file TV shows, listening to music, watching animal videos for Elizabeth, going for car rides to the hardware store, parking lot visits with family and feeding the deer.

We take solace in knowing that he is now at peace and has left this world on his own terms.

Our family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the St. Boniface Hospital Dialysis Unit for the wonderful care, compassion and tremendous kindness Edgar and his family received over the years.

As per Edgar’s wishes cremation has taken place. The Celebration of Life to honor Edgar will be at The Viscount Gort, 1670 Portage Avenue on Saturday, May 24 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Germaine Marguerite (Anderson) Desjardins

December 9, 1949 – February 16, 2025

In Loving Memory of Germaine Marguerite (Anderson) Desjardins

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Germaine (Anderson) Desjardins, who left this world on February 16, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who touched the lives of so many with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.

Born in Val-d’Espoir, Quebec, Germaine grew up with a deep sense of compassion and resilience. She dedicated her life to her family, always putting them before herself and ensuring that her home was filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Germaine was an amazing mother, a talented cook, and a gifted gardener. She baked award-worthy chicken pot pies, and her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit—always blooming, always full of life. Though she had no grandchildren of her own, she poured her love into the family pets, treating them as if they were her own grandbabies—spoiling them with treats, affection, and endless care.

She is survived by her husband, Leon, and her children, Christine (Curtis) and Jamie. Germaine is also remembered by her sisters, Claudette Gingras and Blandine Anderson, extended family, and dear friends, all of whom were blessed to have known her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Amanda (Berthelot) Anderson; and her daughter, Melanie, whom we find comfort in knowing she has now reunited with in eternal peace.

We will gather to honor her memory at a celebration of her life, which will take place at 11 AM on March 29, 2025, at St. Charles Catholic Parish in Winnipeg.

Thank-you to all our family and friends who visited Germaine while in hospital; in addition to all the staff at Beausejour Hospital for their excellent care and compassion during her final days.

Your presence was a blessing and a gift we will forever cherish. Though our hearts ache in your absence, we find solace in knowing that your spirit will live on in each of us. We will love and miss you always. xxx

Jeannette Anderson

June 18, 1946 – December 24, 2024

Unexpectedly Jeanette Donna Marie Anderson peacefully passed in the Selkirk Hospital on December 24, 2024.

Surviving family include four daughters, Lisa, Tracy, Leah and Robin; brother Jim Anderson and his wife Rosemary. There are also nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jeannette was most happy when with her family… she will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.

Our marriage spanned from October 2003 until recently. Between us we had the best feeling knowing there was a strong and gentle hand that fit ours perfectly and all we had to do was take it.

Love you too much – Dan Carrie
