Margaret Heywood

September 20, 1931 – January 4, 2026

We are sad to announce the passing of Margaret Heywood, of Winnipeg Manitoba. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Bill and Nellie Farraday, brother Lenny and her beloved husband Norm Heywood.  She is survived by her children Lee (Glen), Gord, Doug, Dave (Diane), grandchildren Lisa, Jade, Rachel, Mary, and great-grandchild Emily.

Born in Winnipeg, Margaret married Norm in 1953 and they raised their family in Fort Rouge. Sunday pot roast and the many, many other celebrations she hosted demonstrated her love of family time. She always gave a card and gift for every birthday.  Her sense of humor led her to regift one son the exact same card over several birthdays when he would leave that card behind.

Her toll house cookies are a top pick, eaten straight from the freezer, which she kept stocked year-round. Everyone knows the recipe, but no one could duplicate her touch.

In her later years, she could be coaxed to tell a story of her earlier days.  The story of how she got Sam, the very best family dog ever, was a favourite memory.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will follow.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on Margaret’s memorial page using the comment field below.

My condolences on the loss of Margaret. What a stunning photo of her as a young girl. She was a true beauty.
Margaret and I had a fine visit in mid-December. She was funny, clever and welcoming.
At one point she said, “I don’t like it here.” I asked her why. She paused a moment, then said, “I can’t remember the reason, but I know I don’t like it.”
I’m grateful to have known Margaret, if only in the very last years of her life.
