April 5, 1940 – December 30, 2025
Edward “Ed” Winterhalt passed away on December 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 85.
Ed was deeply devoted to his wife, Annette, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Together, they built a family grounded in love, hard work, and generosity. He was a proud and loving father to his son, Michael (Kerri) Winterhalt, and his daughter, Karen (Kerry) Thiessen. Ed was a cherished grandfather to Morgan (Brendan) Bouvette, Lana (Josh) Richert, Stacey (Michael) Acquisto, and Aidan Dickson, and a delighted great-grandfather to Lorenzo, Matteo, Barrett, Charlie, and Ansen, each of whom brought him immense joy.
Born on April 5, 1940, Ed lived a life defined by quiet strength, patience, and kindness—qualities that shaped not only his character but the lives of all who knew him. Ed owned and operated Mimic Printing, where his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic were evident to all who worked with him. Outside of work, he was always ready to help with home projects—some small and some truly giant. One of his most remarkable undertakings was helping to build a second story onto his son’s home alongside his brother-in-law, Leon Morrissette, a lasting testament to his skill, determination, and generosity. He especially treasured working on cars alongside his son, moments that reflected both his patience and his quiet love.
Family was at the heart of Ed’s life. He enjoyed holiday gatherings, sharing stories, and valued the connections he built with extended family and friends. He found great enjoyment on the golf course as an avid member of the Assiniboine Golf Club and would often golf with his daughter Karen, playing courses all over Manitoba. He also valued the camaraderie of the bowling league at Uptown Lanes, where he bowled alongside his wife, Annette.
Stoic and soft-spoken, Ed was deeply warm at heart. He was generous without fanfare, steady in his presence, and kind in ways that did not seek recognition. His calm demeanor and unwavering support left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for the exceptional kindness and compassion Ed received while in their care. Special thanks to Betty Winterhalt for her help, care and support throughout Ed’s last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Cremation has taken place, and a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Ed’s life will be held at a later date.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on Ed’s memorial page using the comment field below.
