September 28, 1954 – December 20, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Rick in Winnipeg, MB. Rick was predeceased by his parents Irwin and Rhoda, brothers Terry, Lorne and Wayne, brother-in-law Ron, and nieces Stacey and Colleen. He is survived by his best friend and wife Kathy, her daughter Sherise (Chris) and her son Steven, his son Terry (Tamara), grandchildren Olivia, Greyson and Emerson, sisters Linda and Shannon and sisters-in-law Artelle, Janice and Rose along with many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Rick was born in Rivers, MB and moved to Winnipeg in 1956. Rick grew up and attended school in Transcona. Rick worked in the auto parts industry for most of his life, although one of his early jobs was delivering pizza for Dal’s using their company supplied VW beetle. Once in the automotive industry he would play softball with a company softball team and would spend hours playing catch with his only son Terry. Rick enjoyed talking cars. He made several attempts at starting some restoration projects over the years, including a 1951 Mercury M100, a Mercury Monterey convertible and a 1981 Olds Cutlass. He taught Terry the basics of automative repair and helped him see some of his projects through to completion. Rick retired from the auto parts industry in 2024. In retirement he would spend his days relaxing in his favorite robe watching all the latest releases with Kathy and making her laugh with his incredible sense of humor and quick wit.
Those who knew Rick know he hated being fussed over. As per his wishes cremation has taken place and a service will not be offered.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on Rick’s memorial page by using the comment field below.

Love you Pops! You’ve taught me so much. I can’t believe you’re gone. Miss you and love you forever!
Rick my love. I don’t know how I’m gonna go on every day without seeing that sweet face. Who’s gonna help me put my shoes and socks on lol. You were there with my back surgery and you were there after willing and able to help me when you had your own pains. Whenever I would start to get even a little agitated, you would make me laugh. Who’s gonna do that now? I’ll be going to become a barefooted grouchy old woman. I miss you so terribly already.
I was so very sad to hear of cousin Rick’s sudden passing. I too was born in Rivers, the Bland & Higginson families had lots of good times together. Rick was always such a fun guy, made me laugh. Everytime I had my vehicle in @ Vickar I would always stop to chat with him. He would always update me on how he & his family were doing. He loved his family dearly. My deepest sympathies to Kathy, his son Terry & family, his sisters Linda & Shannon, and all his other extended family members. I will miss you Rick, RIP.
My Big little Brother, That is what I called you often and made you laugh! You were always there for me even when you weren’t well.
You always made me laugh made me feel good. You were my car guy always there to give me advice. Rest in peace my big little Bro. You will always be in my heart !!.
Rest in peace dear brother. I will miss you dearly. The last few months meant so much, spending time with you and catching up on so much. Was so sorry you were not able to solve all your health issues. Trusting you will now reconnect with all of the rest of our family that have passed on. Say hello from your big sister.💔💔
