Ronald (Ron) William Kolbauer

August 23, 1943 – June 4, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Ron Kolbauer announce his passing at Concordia Hospital on Wednesday, June 4th at the age of 81.

He is survived by his wife Joan; his children Laura Lynn (Peter), Jason (Tracey), and Kristi; and his cherished grandchildren Zoe, Pierce, Ryann, Emma, and Logan. He is also survived by his brother Bob (Lucy), sisters Doreen and Linda, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Mildred and Louis, and his siblings Richard and Myrna.

Growing up in Winnipeg Ron had lots of interesting stories to tell about his youth, working at carnivals and pool halls followed by employment with the Canadian National Railway.  In 1967 he began his career in law enforcement when he joined the East Kildonan Police Department.  Following the city’s amalgamation, he served in various districts across Winnipeg—St. Boniface, Transcona, the North End, and in the Communications and Juvenile Division but he found his greatest fulfillment as a Community Relations officer.  Ron retired in 1993 with the rank of Sergeant II from the Winnipeg Police Department.  He also served for many years on the board of directors at the Winnipeg Police Credit Union.

Outside of work and into his retirement, Ron was a devoted reader, movie buff, card player, and crossword enthusiast.  Known for his sharp mind, Ron rarely missed a trivia question. He loved to golf with his brother and many memorable games were shared over the years, full of laughter, good-natured competition, and cherished family time.  He was a proud founding member of the Winnipeg Pin Collector’s Club, where he found joy and community through a shared passion.

Ron had a special place in his heart for animals, especially the family cats Ginger and Duffy. He delighted in spending time with his “grand-pets” and was always quick to offer a pat or a gentle scratch behind the ears.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Donations in Ron’s memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, an organization that reflects his lifelong love of animals.

Dad, you were a devoted husband, an amazing father, and an extraordinary grandfather. Your presence brought warmth and strength to our lives, and your absence will be deeply felt by all who loved you most.
