Dorothy Mary Cannon (nee Kruse)

Dorothy Mary Cannon (nee Kruse) passed to her rest on November 22, 2023, at Park Manor Care at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur.

Dorothy was born in Middlesex, England on August 12, 1934. She married her best friend and love of her life, Arthur, on September 18, 1955, in Islington, England. They took the adventure of their lives moving to Canada after their honeymoon. Both became proud Canadians in 1967.

Dorothy’s faith in God and her dedication to the Seventh-day Adventist faith helped her meet the many challenges in life, especially the passing of Arthur in 1997 in Sooke, British Columbia.

She is survived by her children, Julie Perry (Ken), Lloyd Cannon (Janet) and grandchildren Jeremy Perry (Sybrenia Chittick), Robert and James Cannon and nieces and nephew in England.

Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her husband at Sooke Harbour Cemetery at a later date.

Family wish to express their appreciation to the dedicated staff on 2E Concordia Hospital and especially the staff and friends at Park Manor Care for the loving compassionate care provided over the past 2½ years as a resident.

Donations can be made to Park Manor Care, 301 Redonda St, Winnipeg, MB R2C 1L7 in loving memory of Dorothy.

I will miss Dorothy SOOOO much. In Sooke we spent so much time together, as she was my walking partner, friend, teacher, and a surrogate “mom” to me. Dorothy’s home and heart were always open to Raven and I, even when we moved to the Okanagan. Just a few examples of this; She stepped in to help me when I developed a frozen shoulder in the middle of my schooling, by coming over and typed as I dictated what I needed to answer on my assignments. Then when I developed cancer, she would take my large bags of carrots to her house, scrub them and return for juicing. But probably the most precious was that Dorothy was a prayer warrior, and I so appreciated her prayers for me ovér the years. I can still see her excitement as she would recount of the bookmarks that she blessed people with that day. She lived to minister to all she me…even if it meant baking a loaf of bread for a new neighbor.
Looking forward to that great reunion when we both will see our precious husbands, and I will hear Dorothy’s roar of laughter, once more.

Her earthly journey is over- her next thought / sight will be to witness the coming of her beloved Saviour. She leaves a hole in the lives of her family and friends but she also gifts them with hope for that great getting up morning!💞

I remember Dorothy as a kind, generous hostess and someone who always had a smile for you and a friendly twinkle in her eye. I was just a kid when I knew her in Whitehorse, Yukon, but she was very loved and respected. Her love for Jesus was real and her light will shine on in all who were blessed to know her.

Janice and I were sad to hear that Dorothy recently passed away. We were very thankful to have known her for a few years in Winnipeg. Dorothy was a delightful lady, always with a smile and we enjoyed visiting her often. She really enjoyed being outdoors in her little garden at East Park Lodge – considering the pictures she showed us of the property she loved and her beautiful gardens in Sooke! Praying for Julie, Lloyd and all of Dorothy’s family, that God will be near to you with His comfort and strength.

Both Dorothy and Art were a big part of my life at Branson Hospital and School of Nursing. That has been a long time ago but I look forward to “getting caught up” in the near future when Jesus calls all the faithful from their sleep at His second coming. We have a blessed hope.

  12. Heather White Switak

My deepest sympathy to Julie and all of Dorothy’s family. She and Arthur were very special to me at Branson Hospital School of Nursing and years later on southern Vancouver Island. I will always miss both of them and I eagerly look forward to the Grand Reunion Day when we will meet again never to part! Until then may God comfort you and give you peace.

Dorothy was one of my mom’s best friends for so many years when we lived just a few houses apart in Willowdale. I remember she and mom (Pearl) took driving lessons together. I remember Dorothy’s kindness and graciousness and what a superb housekeeper she was! Her home was always immaculate. Funny what imprints. She was an example in ways great and small. My heart goes out to the family.

Dorothy was “a good neighbour” both literally (only one house between us) and spiritually. We were privileged to know their family. Our kids had their own Uncle Arthur stories, Brent got paid to mow their lawn and tend the flower beds. Such good visits back and forth. Condolences to all the family.
