Ethel Mildred Ellie (Nee Danchuk)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ethel Mildred Ellie (nee Danchuk) on March 5th, 2021 at the Riverview Health Center at the age of 92.

Ethel was predeceased by her loving husband Roy of 67 years, her first born son Ronald, her brothers Dr. Edward Danchuk, her baby brother Steven, as well as her Mom (Patricia) and Dad (Fred). She was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Peter, Brownie, Fred and sister-in-law Patti.

Ethel is survived by her son David (Alice) and granddaughter Nicole, and her eldest son’s spouse Yvonne and grandchildren Brooke and Bryce, brother-in-law Bill, sister-in-law Eugenia, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ethel was born in Winnipeg and went to Norquay School and St John’s Tech High School where she forged many long lasting friendships. Prior to becoming a homemaker, Ethel worked at Wolfe Sheet Metal and at the Winnipeg Free Press as secretary to the President. In her capacity as secretary she unknowingly passed encoded messages from “A man called Intrepid” to the military during the war.

Ethel travelled to Cuba with family and friends for 18 consecutive years and enjoyed over 55 years of cottaging at Falcon Lake. Her immediate family all knew who the best fisherman of the family was and it wasn’t a man.

Ethel was many things to many people. Mom is known by many loving names including Baba, Bobs, Eth, Ethel, Poopsie, Zalzulka, Choch or just Mom. Each one of these names was an expression of love between people who were joined at the heart with her. She was committed to her family and determined to do the best for them.

Many thanks to the compassionate staff at the Riverview Health Center during her brief stay as well as the dedicated Home Care workers who helped Ethel stay in her home for as long as possible.

Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers please direct any donations to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB  R3E 0V9

My deepest sympathy to you, David, as well as to your family with the passing of your loving mother. This has been such a difficult time for all of you with having to say your farewells to your father and brother, as well. May they be together in a beautiful paradise and may all your memories bring you comfort. Take care of yourself, David. You have been such a devoted son and brother.
